Davis and Kessler Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Tennis Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Saint Joseph's Aurora Davis and Jeff Kessler were recognized for their strong performances last week as they were named Atlantic 10 women's and men's Co-Perfromers of the Week, respectively.

Helping the Hawks to a 3-1 team record, Davis posted four singles and three doubles victories for the Hawks last week, including four wins against conference opponents. The sophomore didn't drop a set in her four singles wins from the No. 2 spot, downing Temple's Jordan Batey (6-1, 6-2), St. Francis (N.Y.)'s Camille Petruzzo (6-0, 6-0), Rhode Island's Nithila Asokaraj (6-0, 6-4) and Villanova's Tori Smyth (6-2, 7-5). The Stroudsburg, Pa., product also paired with Casey Robinson for three No. 1 doubles victories against Temple, Rhode Island and Villanova.

Kessler went 5-0 for the week, winning all three of his singles matches and both of his doubles contests as the Hawks earned three consecutive 7-0 wins. Against Lafayette, he won his third-flight singles match in straight sets after a first-flight doubles victory. Kessler was a double-winner on Tuesday against La Salle as well, cruising to an 8-2 win at second doubles before rolling in his sixth-flight singles match. The Brooklyn native wrapped up his week with a dominant 6-1, 6-0, third-flight singles win over St. Francis (N.Y.). For the week, Kessler dropped just nine games in singles play and won all of his matches in straight sets.

The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team will begin play in the Atlantic 10 Championship this Thursday at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Hawk men will take part in the Atlantic 10 Championship in Mason, Ohio, beginning April 25.
