April 30, 2008
PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's graduate student Lauren Kuhmerker became only the fourth Hawk in program history to earn Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference accolades, conference officials announced Wednesday. An elementary/special education major with a 4.0 grade-point average, Kuhmerker posted the third-most single-season individual wins, going 14-3 while playing at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Joining the Hawks as a walk-on in 2005-06, the three-year letterwinner posted a team-best 12-5 mark in doubles competition this past year. A member of both the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Saint Joseph's Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Kuhmerker also recently received the team's Scholar-Athlete Award. She joins Carmen Gonzales (1991), Allison Popen (2001) and Jance Hoy (2003) as previous A-10 Academic All-Conference Hawk honorees. Dayton's Allysa Detroy and Megan Gray, Duquesne's Johanna Bezjak, Rhode Island's Grace Hedstrom, Masha Pozar of Massachusetts and Ana Spivakovsky of Charlotte join Kuhmerker on the All-Academic Team. Detroy was selected A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year.
