March 29, 2008
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Saint Joseph's women's track and field squad opened its spring campaign at the Monmouth Season Opener on Saturday. The Hawks were paced by a victory in the Sprint Medley Relay and five other silver medal performances in the sprints and jumps. The Sprint Medley Relay brought home the lone gold medal on Saturday, winning the event by over seven seconds in a time of 4:21.47. The other relay the Hawks ran was the 4x100m Relay, which placed second in a time of 48.46. SJU received a major boost from senior captain Jordan Teuber, who placed second in the 100m and 200m dashes. Teuber ran 12.43 in the 100m while sprinting to a time of 24.85 in the 200m. Junior Nicole McMullen ran a time of 25.15 in the 200m, placing third in the event. Another short sprint silver performance for the Hawks was posted in the 100m Hurdles as Kristen Pierce came in at 15.13. Morgan Matecki took home sixth place in a time of 16.45, too. Freshman Nohjay Nimpson showed her versatility as she competed in the triple jump and the javelin throw. Her distance of 35' 7 3/4'' in the triple jump earned her second place. In addition to her jump, her throw of 118' 2'' was good enough for seventh. Other top performances were turned in by Amy Rhein (fourth/4:51.03) in the 1,500m run, while Skylar Rea (fifth/1:10.59) and Kristin Andrews (sixth/1:10.68) competed in the 400m Hurdles.
Saint Joseph's will hit the track again next week when the Hawks will travel to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary on Friday and Saturday.
