Billikens Wrap Up A-10 Championships

AMHERST, Mass. - Saint Louis track and field closed out its season at the Atlantic 10 Track and Field Championships Sunday in Amherst, Mass. Both the men's and women's squads ended up finishing 10th overall in the second conference meet in program history. The Billikens' best event of the meet came in the 800 meters, as both Austin Critchlow and Maddie O'Quinn posted school records for the men's and women's squads, respectively. Critchlow finished second overall with a time of 1:52.92, surpassing his own school record in the event. O'Quinn turned in a time of 2:13.82 to finish third overall. That time surpassed Brigette Schutzman's previous school-record time of 2:14.36. Tiffany Alexander qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles and eventually finished sixth overall. Kristin Beckham tied her school record in the high jump with a leap of 5-1, while Meredith Chalk tied the school record in the shot put with a heave of 34-9.75. The women's 4x400-meter relay squad posted a school record with a time of 3:58.95. In addition, the 4x800-meter squad surpassed the school mark with a time of 9:06.28 to finish second overall. On the men's side, the Billikens had good performances from several student-athletes including David Whelan, who finished seventh overall in the 100 meters with a time of 11.06. Steve Vargas placed 13th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:02.81. Gavin Robey lowered his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.88. Justin Kwasa improved his school record in the hammer with a throw of 136-1. The men's side also posted school records in the 4x400 and 4x800-meter relays with times of 3:17.93 and 7:57.44, respectively.
