Billikens Enjoy Record-Setting Day at Duquesne
Sept. 4, 2010
Women's Results
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Saint Louis freshman Margo Richardson (Mt. Vernon, Ill./Mt. Vernon Township) and junior Hilary Orf (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) finished first and second, respectively, at the Duquesne Duals Saturday morning in the Billikens' season opener at Schenley Park. Richardson, competing in her first collegiate meet, set the SLU school record with a 5K time of 18:01. The previous record of 18:07.05 was set by Laura Coyer in 2007. It also marked the first time a Billiken finished first in an event since 2000, when Aimee Walther won the Saluki Invitational. Orf finished just behind Richardson with a time of 18:07, which ranks second on the Billikens' career performance list. "This is the best season opener we have ever had," SLU head coach Jon Bell said. "We accomplished everything we wanted to from a logistical standpoint as this course is the site of the A-10 Championships. We got off on the right foot and we should be able to build on this. We competed well against other Atlantic 10 Conference teams, so I feel good with where we are as a team." Sophomore Elise Medley placed third for SLU and 12th overall with a personal-best time of 18:49, while senior Sara Fraley placed 33rd with a time of 19:34. Juniors Jenna Romano and Adair Quisenberry finished in 43rd and 44th place with times of 19:58 and 20:02, respectively. On the men's side, senior Brian Holdmeyer posted a five-mile time of 26:06. Sophomore Jack Hostettler posted a 37th-place time of 27:06, while senior Jordan Jennings finished 49th with a time of 27:25. The Billikens return to action Friday, Sept. 17, for the National Catholic Invitational at Notre Dame.
