Athens, Ohio - The Saint Louis field hockey team dropped its 2010 season opener 3-0 to Radford. The game was played in Athens, Ohio. SLU featured four freshmen in the starting lineup and had six see action in the contest.

"We had some good moments, but plenty of chances to improve," Billiken head coach Lauren Bruce said. "Alex LaBarge stood on her head and kept us in the game. Laken Gehris and Caiti Brownell played well in the back, and Eunice Yoon gave us a lift off the bench. We will make some adjustments and come out ready against Ohio."

SLU goalie Alex LaBarge came up with 10 saves during the outing, but the Billikens were unable to put a shot past Radford keeper Jennifer Wisniewski. The Highlanders carried the early play, but LaBarge kept the game scoreless until the 26th minute. Kay Tufts put Radford ahead 1-0 on a feed from Madonna Wadolowski. The Highlanders put 10 shots on the SLU goal, but LaBarge turned aside seven shots to keep the contest 1-0 at the half.

The Billikens took three shots in the second half, with Kelsey Shultz having the best scoring opportunity. Nicole Kent and Brooke Weaver both had chances to put the Bills on the board. Radford kept the pressure up and took a 2-0 lead with a tally in the 61st minute. The Highlanders tacked on a late goal to close out the scoring.
