April 9, 2008
ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis head women's soccer coach Tim Champion has announced that goalkeeper Hannah Perry (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) and defender/midfielder Colleen Kustura (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) have committed to attend the University and play for the Billikens this fall. Both players will have four years of eligibility. Perry and Kustura join back Andrea Barklage (Lake St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word), forward/midfielder Jessica Lopez (Chandler, Ariz./Seton Catholic Prep), back Sarah Reinking (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South) and forward Jasmina Suljic (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) in the Billikens' 2008 recruiting class. Perry posted a 1.01 goals against average and 13 shutouts last fall for Wheaton North's regional champions. She registered a 0.41 GAA and eight shutouts as a junior to help the Falcons capture the DuPage Valley Conference title and third place at the state tournament. Also, the 6-foot-1 Perry was a member of the Chicago Fire Juniors club team that won the Rockford Super Clubs Cup and the Metro United Girls Fall Classic and Women's Showcase. Kustura was tabbed the Golden West League Offensive Most Valuable Player last fall and was selected to the All-Conference team for a third time. She tallied 23 goals and 17 assists from her central-midfield position to help Ocean View win its first league crown in 22 years. In addition, Kustura was a six-year starter for the Cerritos Regional Soccer Club Infinity team that earned three consecutive top-five finishes at the Southern California Coast Soccer League (CSL) Premier Level and won the CSL League Cup in 2005 and 2006. The team garnered the "Got Soccer" No. 1 national ranking in 2007. Kustura, a member of the National Honor Society and the California Scholastic Federation, is the niece of Dan Kustura, who played soccer at Saint Louis during the 1979 and 1980 seasons. Her father, grandfather and aunt also are SLU alumni.
Saint Louis posted a 10-6-2 record (7-2-2 Atlantic 10) in 2007, giving the Billiken program at least 10 victories for the 10th time in its 12-year history. The Billikens have made two NCAA Tournament appearances, won three regular-season conference championships and captured two conference tournament crowns. |
