ST. LOUIS - The Saint Louis department of athletics donated nearly $800 to the Special Needs Soccer Association (SPENSA) following the SLU women's soccer team's Aug. 14 exhibition game against Arkansas. A portion of ticket sales was designated to benefit SPENSA, an organization with which Billiken women's soccer has a longstanding relationship.

"It is a privilege to work closely with SPENSA, and we are happy to volunteer our time throughout the year in addition to making this financial gift," head coach Tim Champion said. "We appreciate the fans who attended the game and showed their support.

"Beyond what happens on the field, our goal is to help our players develop as whole people," Champion said. "For our program, that means giving time and attention to things beyond soccer and academics. It means reaching out to those who haven't been as fortunate as we have been - doing something for others because it is the right thing to do."
