Billikens Defeat Cleveland State, 6-1
March 14, 2010 LAWRENCE, Kan. - Saint Louis captured the doubles point and won five of six singles matches Sunday in a 6-1 victory over Cleveland State. In singles action, Hailee Elmore improved to 13-0 in dual-meet competition with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Catrine Bjerrehus at No. 1. Also in singles play, Jenny Nalepa got past Nicole Janek 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 3, Mia Elmore was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Sanda Bjelan at No. 4, Kasia Tomalak defeated Charlotte Gibbons 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5, and Caitlin McKenna came from behind to edge Mengdi Liu 4-6, 6-2 (10-8) at No. 6. Maria Lazaris collected the only point for Cleveland State (7-8) with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Casey Miller at No. 2. The Billikens (8-5) won the doubles point in dramatic fashion. Hailee Elmore and Tomalak claimed an 8-3 decision over Lazaris and Janek at No. 2, while Miller and Nalepa fell 9-7 to Bjerrehus and Gibbons at No. 1. At No. 3, Mia Elmore and McKenna overcame a 6-1 deficit against Bjelan and Liu to steal a 9-8 (7-4) decision that gave SLU a 1-0 lead in the match. Saint Louis returns to action Friday, March 19, against Southern Illinois Edwardsville. First serve at Dwight Davis Tennis Center is 3 p.m.
