Boken Named A-10 Defensive Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis senior outside hitter Megan Boken (Wheaton, Ill. / St. Francis) was recognized as the Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Aug. 29. It is the first weekly league honor of her career. Boken earned All-Tournament plaudits at the IPFW Invitational last weekend after turning in a spectacular all-around performance. She collected 49 kills (3.77 per set), 47 digs (3.62 per set) and 13 blocks (1.00 per set) while hitting at a team-best .264 clip. Boken finished the weekend with three double-doubles. In the season opener against Milwaukee, Boken posted a match-best 16 kills, 12 digs and five blocks. She recorded 17 kills, a career- and team-high 20 digs and six blocks in the IPFW match. Boken completed tournament action with a team-high 16 kills to go with 15 digs and two solo blocks in the win over Tulsa. Following the first week of the season, Boken ranks third in the A-10 in kills and points (4.62) per set, is tied for fifth in blocks per set and stands 10th in digs per set. With her play last weekend, Boken cracked SLU's career top 20 in digs (20th with 848) and solo blocks (T-16th with 37). SLU hosts the Marcia E. Hamilton Active Ankle Challenge at Chaifetz Arena this weekend. The Billikens face Creighton in their home opener Friday at 7 p.m. Saint Louis takes on Wake Forest Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and closes the tournament with a 7 p.m. match vs. Iowa.
