Berkeley, CA - The Saint Mary's women's lacrosse team ended it 2008 season with a 13-11 loss to the UC Davis Aggies in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament from Memorial Stadium on Thursday afternoon. Junior P.J. Hainley who had a game-high six goals led Saint Mary's.

The Gaels ended the season with a 2-16 overall record. UC Davis also finished its season, compiling a 7-11 overall ledger.

The six goals by Hainley set a new career-high for the midfielder, and matched Chloe Dee for the most goals scored by a Gael in a single game this season. Although Hainley scored on six of her 10 shots, it was not enough, as the Gaels were defeated by the Aggies twice in the last two weeks. In the meeting on April 20, UC Davis defeated the Gaels 13-12 in a game played at UCD.

In their final games as a Gael, Chloe Dee and Lisa Vogeley scored two goals each, while Dee added two assists for four points, and Vogeley added one assist for three total points. Dana Elfvin, who did not play in the MPSF Tournament opener against Stanford, added one goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Whitney Campitiello made her first career start in goal for Saint Mary's, and collected eight saves while allowing 13 goals in her first complete game in a Gaels uniform. Campitiello made six saves in the first half and two second-half saves.

The Aggies scored the first goal of the game just 33 seconds into the game when Olivia Jarem scored an unassisted goal. SMC's P.J. Hainley and UCD's Katie McGovern traded the next four goals. Following the exchange of goals, Hainley added back-to-back goals for her third and fourth of the game to give SMC a 4-3 lead with 16:13 remaining in the first half.

UC Davis answered with four straight goals to take a 7-4 advantage with 3:31 left, but Chloe Dee answered for the Gaels with 1:23 remaining on the first half clock to cut the deficit to 7-5 at the break.

Lisa Vogeley scored 22 seconds into the second half to get the Gaels within one goal (7-6), but goals by UC Davis' Christina Corsa and McGovern had the Aggies leading 9-6 with 23:37 left to play. Dee scored her second goal of the game at the 15:17 mark, but the Aggies scored four straight goals in less than four minutes to take a 13-7 lead with nearly 11 minutes left in the contest.

Saint Mary's rallied to score the final four goals of the game, but it was too little too late, as UC Davis held off the late SMC rally to win 13-11. After Elfvin scored with 8:43, Hainley scored at the 7:23 mark and then again with 1:31 remaining to get the Gaels within three.
