Durham, N.C. - Stony Brook's track and field team had five runners place within the top-ten during the first day of the Duke Invitational Friday in Durham, N.C.

Sophomore Daire Bermingham (Portmarnock, Ireland) posted the highest finish for the men's team, with a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter (8:21.49). Also competing in the 3,000-meter for the men's team was sophomore Iain Whitfield (Stroud, England) who finished eighth (8:31.11).

Senior Kerry Salzano (Staten Island, N.Y.) took second for the women's team in the 10,000-meter with a time of 37:11.81. Freshman Ruth Gillespie (Carrickfergus, N. Ireland) and senior Elizabeth Carlson (Lincoln, R.I.) competed in the 3,000-meter on the women's side finishing seventh (10:16.06) and ninth (10:23.18) respectively.

The Duke Invitational continues Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m.
