Track and Field Breaks Two School Records During Day One of AE Championship
May 3, 2008
Orono, Maine - Sophomores Stephanie Vos (Apalachin, N.Y.) and Alex Felce (Stroud, England) both set new school records during day one of the America East Track and Field Championships Saturday. The Seawolves also posted three NCAA Regional qualifying times. Felce completed the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:53.45, which broke the school record he set earlier this year by almost seven seconds. The time was good enough for second overall and qualified him for the NCAA Regionals. Vos also improved upon the record she set earlier in the year, finishing the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.05. Vos' time qualified her for the finals of the 400-meter hurdles, which will happen Sunday. Two Seawolves ran NCAA Regional qualifying times in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase today. Freshman Carolina Cortes (Woodmere, N.Y.) finished second overall with a time of 10:41.77 and sophomore Jessica Hampson (Smithtown, N.Y.) crossed fourth in 10:47.32. Senior Kerry Salzano (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted an ECAC qualifying time in the 10,000-meter when she finished fourth in a time of 36:52.19. Fellow seniors Robert Dantone (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Melvin Genao (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) also competed today. Dantone placed seventh in the hammer throw (46.66) while Genao qualified for tomorrow's final in the 400-meter. Both the men's and women's teams rank seventh overall after day one. Day two of the America East Track and Field Championship will start tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
