Track and Field Picked Fifth and Sixth In Preseason Polls

March 27, 2008

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's women's track and field team was picked to finish fifth in the America East, according to a preseason poll released by the conference Wednesday. The men's team was picked to finish sixth.

After strong indoor seasons, both teams will be looking to shake things up in the America East this spring. The women's team finished tied for fourth at the indoor Conference Championships and placed within the top-five 10 different times. The men's team finished sixth overall, including seven top-five finishes and an individual championship in the 3,000-meter by sophomore Tim Hodge (Tawa, New Zealand).

Hodge and fellow sophomore Alex Felce (Stroud, England) should lead a strong contingent of distance runners for the men's team, while seniors Justin Miller (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Mubaarak Muhammad (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) should be the top field performers for the Seawolves.

The women's roster is also very talented when it comes to distance running, led by senior Dana Hastie (Wellington, New Zealand).

Both teams kickoff the outdoor season this Saturday SCSU Invitational in New Haven, Conn.
