Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior Michael Tansey (Valley Stream, N.Y.) went 4-for-5 with five RBI and sophomore Rob Dyer (Selden, N.Y.) went 4-for-5 with three RBI as the Stony Brook University baseball team pounded out a season-high 19 hits on its way to a 16-3 victory over the Fairfield Stags on Wednesday afternoon at University Field. Stony Brook improves to 25-16 with the victory while Fairfield falls to 13-28.

Tucker Nathans gave the Stags a 2-0 lead in the first with a two-run home run but Tansey gave the Seawolves the lead for good in the second, lining a three-run home run over the left-field wall. The Seawolves blew the game open in the fourth, scoring seven runs highlighted by a two-run single from junior Keith Fier (Armonk, N.Y.) and run-scoring hits from Dyer, freshman Stephen Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and junior Steven Mazzurco (Selden, N.Y.).

The Seawolves added a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from freshman Nick Thode (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and then tallied five more in the sixth on a Dyer two-run home run, a Tansey RBI double and run-scoring groundouts from Thode and junior Chad Rebecca (Mount Prospect, Ill.).

Freshman Evan Stecko-Haley (Coral Springs, Fla.) (2-2) settled down after allowing the two runs in the first, giving up just two more hits in his last 4.0 innings of work to pick up the victory. Sophomore Matt Harloff (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and junior Michael Barbot (Bronx, N.Y.) combined to pitch the final 4.0 innings for the Seawolves, allowing only one run and one hit.

Ryan Calabrese (1-8) took the loss for Fairfield, giving up 10 runs and 11 hits in 3.2 innings. Nathan led the Stags offense, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Seawolves return to action on Saturday, hosting Lafayette for a doubleheader at University Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
