Six Run Eighth Lifts Seawolves Over UMBC, 14-6, In Regular Season Finale
May 20, 2007 Baltimore, Md. - The Stony Brook baseball team scored six runs in the eighth inning as the Seawolves rallied to top UMBC in their final regular season game, 14-6. Three different Seawolves homered on the day as Stony Brook improves to 31-22 overall and 16-7 in America East play. UMBC falls to 13-40, 4-20. With the game knotted up at 6-6 heading into the eighth inning, the Seawolves scored six runs in the eighth to take control of the game. Chris Sipp got things going when the senior singled through the right side to score Keith Fier. After Mike Stephan was hit by a pitch, Rob Leonard ripped an RBI single to plate Brian Witkowski and Sipp. Justin Echevarria followed with an RBI double down the left field line, Chris Cruz followed with an RBI single and Jeremy Nowak drove in Echevarria as Stony Brook plated six runs on five hits to take a commanding 12-6 lead. In the top of the ninth Rob Dyer capped the Stony Brook scoring with a two run blast. Matt Harloff (2-1) threw two innings out of the bullpen for the win. Witkowski finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI, a home run and three runs scored, Leonard was 3-for-6 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored and Dyer was 1-for-1 with a two-run shot. The Seawolves return to action on Thursday when they compete in the America East Tournament. Stony Brook will host the tournament at Farmingdale State. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
