Novakowski, Marino Earn America East Baseball Pitcher, Rookie of the Week Honors
April 23, 2008
Cambridge, Mass. - Senior Gary Novakowski (Prospect, Conn.) and freshman Stephen Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.) were named America East Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday after leading the Stony Brook University baseball team to a series win at Vermont over the weekend. Novakowski hurled his team-high third complete game to pick up the victory in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, a 2-1 win over the Catamounts. The right-hander allowed just five hits and an earned run in his 7.0 innings of work while walking just one. Marino hit .500 (7-for-14) on the week with three doubles and six RBI, including a career-high four hits and five RBI in the Seawolves' 15-7 victory over Vermont in the series finale Sunday. He went 2-for-3 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Marino also added a hit and an RBI in the first game of the series. The Seawolves return to action on Friday, traveling to take on Maine. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
