Men's Basketball Continues Conference Play With Road Contest Against Hartford

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Book University men's basketball team will try to end a four-game slide and pick up its first road conference victory of the season on Thursday night, traveling to take on the Hartford Hawks at Chase Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The game can be heard on WLIR 107.1 FM and WUSB 90.1 FM. Last Time Out: Junior Michael Tyree (Somerset, N.J.) scored a team-high 20 points including four of five from three but it wasn't enough as Vermont shot 48 percent from the field on its way to a 72-62 victory over the Stony Brook University men's basketball team on Monday night at Patrick Gym. Mike Trimboli scored a game-high 22 points for the Catamounts who were harassed into 23 turnovers by the Seawolves. Senior Emanuel Neto led the Seawolves with 13 rebounds in the game which featured 47 fouls and 51 free throws between the two teams. Series History: Hartford leads the series 11-3 after taking all three contests from the Seawolves last season including 49-47 come-from-behin victory in the first round of the America East tournament. SBU's last road victory over the Hawks came on Feb. 12, 2005, a 74-60 triumph. Last meeting: Bo Taylor hit a turnaround 12-foot jumper from the baseline as time expired and Hartford held Stony Brook without a field goal for the final 16:40, rallying for a 49-47 victory over the Seawolves in the first-round of the 2007 America East Conference tournament. Hartford, which trailed by 20 in the first half and by 19 with 15:10 left, was down 44-27 with 12:38 remaining when it went on a 22-3 run the rest of the way. Mike Popoko led the Seawolves in the game with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Scouting the Hawks:
Hartford (9-11, 3-2) comes into the game off a come-from-behind 76-71 victory over Maine on Monday night. The Hawks erased a 13-point second-half deficit behind sophomore Joe Zeglinski who scored 19 of his career-high 28 points in the second stanza. The victory put UHart in fifth place in the conference, but the Hawks are even in the loss column with the top four squards. Zeglinski is sixth in the league in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game. The Hawks are second in the America East in scoring offense (72.4) and field goal percentage (.443)but last in scoring defense (76.8).
Tyree Hits The Mark: After struggling from the field over the past several games, junior sharpshooter Michael Tyree found his range on Monday night against Vermont. The Somerset, N.J. native scored a career-high 20 points, going eight of 11 from the field incluing four of five from long distance. Road Block: Senior Emanuel Neto continued to make his presence felt on the defensive end on Monday against Vermont, tying a career-high with four blocks after swatting away three shots in the previous game against BU. The Luanda, Angola native also grabbed 13 boards against the Catamounts, the sixth time this season he has reached double-figure rebounds. |
