McBride's Named America East Rookie of the Week, Stony Brook Cracks Top-20

March 17, 2008

Cambridge, Mass. - For the third time in four weeks a Stony Brook men's lacrosse player has been named the America East Rookie of the Week with the announcement by the conference today that freshman Jordan McBride (New Westminster, British Columbia) has been named to the honor, his first of the season. There was also good news for the team as a group as the Seawolves, on the strength of their upset over then seventh-ranked Delaware on Saturday, moved into the top-20 of the Inside Lacrosse/Nike media poll for the first time this season at No. 20.

Stony Brook's freshman from Canada turned in one of the best individual performances in Stony Brook history as his amazing total of 10 goals led the Seawolves to the upset, 19-16, win over #7 Delaware. His goals early in the game gave Stony Brook an early two-goal lead after the team had fallen behind 2-0 before his goal at the end of the second quarter enabled SBU to go into the half tied at 8-8. He then almost single-handedly brought Stony Brook back from a four-goal deficit in the third. With Stony Brook down three, McBride scored four straight goals in a span of seven minutes that put the Seawolves back into the lead. He then added two more scores in the fourth that helped provide the margin of victory for SBU. His 10 goals set a new school record (old record was eight), set a new Rullo Stadium record at Delaware and was just one short of the NCAA record.

In addition to defeating its highest ranked opponent ever as a Division I program, Stony Brook's victory over Delaware also propelled the Seawolves into the national rankings for the first time this season. Stony Brook took the last spot in the media poll this week at No. 20 with 41 points, trailing No. 19 Harvard by 49 points. It is the first national ranking for Stony Brook since the Seawolves were at No. 19 on April 9th of last season.

Stony Brook will be back in action tomorrow at home, hosting Lafayette at 3:00 p.m. in LaValle Stadium.
