Orono, Maine - Stony Brook's swimming and diving teams had an impressive showing during day two of the America East Championships at the University of Maine Friday. While both the men's and women's teams remained in fourth and seventh place respectively, the Seawolves did place first in both the men's 500-yard freestyle and the men's 200-yard freestyle relay.

Seawolves freshman Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland) had a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 4:30.95, a new Stony Brook school record. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of junior Michael MacDonald (Monroe Township, N.J.), senior Alexander Kissel (Amityville, N.Y.), junior Omer Ozcan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Eric Gaffey (Bohemia, N.Y.) was the Seawolves' other top finisher, touching with a time of 1:23.94.

Gaffey almost claimed first-place individually in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in second by just .19 seconds. His time of 21.21 is the fastest time by any Seawolf in the 50-yard freestyle this season. Other Seawolves competing in that event included: MacDonald who touched fifth (21.51), Ozcan who finished eighth (21.98), Kissel who placed 10th (21.56), sophomore Ray Sato (Eastchester, N.Y) who finished 11th and senior Jonathon Eldor (Givat Elah, Israel) who finished 12th (21.72).

It was the 200-yard freestyle relay team that ended up being the top finisher for the women's team. Freshman Maja Gudelj (Split, Croatia), senior Courtney Teague (Colorado Springs, Colo.), sophomore Rebecca Sayles (Calgary, Alberta) and senior Nyisha Green-Washington (Highland Mills, N.Y.) placed fifth overall with a time of 1:38.58.

Teague (24.86), Green-Washington (24.89), and Gudelj (25.11) all swam in the 50-yard freestyle as well, touching 10th, 11th, and 15th respectively. Teague and Green-Washington's times were personal-bests on the season.
