Women's Basketball Hits The Road To Take On Maine

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's basketball team travels to Maine on Saturday for a noon tip-off against the Black Bears. The game will be broadcast on WUSB 90.1 by Jeff Bernstein. Stony Brook won the previous meeting, 72-65 on January 16. The Seawolves are looking to snap a seven-game losing streak. Last time vs. Maine: Senior Aly Young (Lodi, Calif.) scored a career-high 25 points and senior Dana Ferraro recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds as Stony Brook jumped out to 20-5 lead en route to a 72-65 victory over Maine. Stony Brook jumped out to an early 8-0 lead just four minutes into the game keyed off five turnovers from Maine. After a three-pointer from Tanna Ross that cut the Seawolves lead to 10-5, a 10-0 run helped by eight points from Young gave the Seawolves a 20-5 lead and its biggest lead of the half. Maine started to hit its stride and cut the Stony Brook lead to just eight, 25-17, with just under seven minutes to go in the first half. After Stony Brook got the lead back up to 13, the Black Bears ended the half on a 12-2 run as they trailed 34-31 at halftime. Amanda Tewksbury had six points during the run including a jumper at the buzzer. The senior duo of Young and Dana Ferraro (Middlesex, N.J.) scored 17 of the final 22 points to hold on for a 72-65 win. Young's 25 points earned her America East player of the game honors. Jeter chipped in with 13 points including 7-8 from the line. Doubling Up Early: Dana Ferraro was one rebound short of a double double in the first half against UMBC. Ferraro finished with 13 and 13 for her 25th career double double. 11 From a Milestone: After grabbing 13 boards vs. UMBC, Ferraro is just four away from tying Joan Gandolf for second on the school's all-time rebounding list. With 11 rebounds, Ferraro will be just the second player and the first in the school's Division I era with 1,000 rebounds. Dynamic Duo:Ferraro and Kirsten Jeter continue to be the most productive players for Stony Brook. They combined for 21 of the Seawolves' 30 points in the first half against UMBC.
