Hartford Game Notes

Stony Brook is back on the road for the first time since February 16 when it takes on Hartford. Jeff Bernstein and WUSB 90.1 will broadcast the action. Hartford is 8-6 all-time vs. Stony Brook winning the last two meetings.

Last Time vs. Hartford
Up 25-23 at halftime, Hartford utilized a 15-2 run to start the second half as it defeated the Stony Brook women's basketball team, 70-55, at the Stony Brook University Arena.

The Hawks' 15-2 run to open the second half was helped by eight points from Danielle Hood and six from Erica Beverly. Stony Brook did not go quietly and jumped right back into the game with a run of its own, this time a 14-3 spurt helped by eight points from senior Dana Ferraro (Middlesex, N.J.) over a span of 4:30 to cut the Hartford deficit to just four.

With 6:08 remaining in the game, a free throw from Jeter cut the Hawks' lead to just five, but that would be as close as the Seawolves would get.

Jeter's 17 points were a career-high as she was named America East player of the game. Senior Aly Young (Lodi, Calif.) added 14 points and Ferraro had her 23rd career double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Horsey Perfect From Start To Finish
Freshman Misha Horsey had an impressive stat line shooting the basketball. Horsey shot 3-3 from the floor making her only three-point try and went 2-2 from the free throw line.

Freshman Jodie Plikus had eight points in just 10 minutes of action vs. B.U.. She was a perfect 2-2 from behind the arc.

As a team, Stony Brook shot 4-6 from three going 2-3 in each half vs. B.U.

Boston University Tops Stony Brook, 70-58
Cheri Raffo had a game-high 25 points and Christine Kinneary had 18 points and seven assists as Boston University held off the Stony Brook women's basketball team, 70-58 at the Stony Brook University Arena on Saturday evening. The Terriers improve to 16-11, 9-5 while Stony Brook is 6-21, 1-13 in America East play.

Stony Brook took an early 13-9 lead after jump shots from senior Dana Ferraro (Middlesex, N.J.) and freshman Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) and a three from freshman Misha Horsey (Wyncote, Pa.) on consecutive possessions. After Jeter's free throw made it 16-13, BU went on a 8-0 run to open up a 21-16 lead with 8:39 remaining in the first half.

Kasey Devine's jumper gave the Terriers their biggest lead of the half, a six-point advantage with 6:10 left. But the Seawolves answered with four straight points from Horsey to cut the lead to one with 4:15 remaining in the half. Horsey had a team-high nine points in the first frame as Stony Brook trailed Boston University, 30-28 at the half.

Raffo's 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half helped the Terriers take its largest lead of the game, a 52-36 advantage with 10:52 to play.

After Kinneary's free throws put the Terriers up by 18, Stony Brook began an 18-4 run over seven minutes to cut the deficit to just four with 2:23 left to play. Freshman Jodie Plikus (Waterford, Conn.) (8) and Jeter combined to score 14 of the 18 points during the run. Jumpers from Devine and Raffo on consecutive possessions stretched the BU lead up to eight. The Terriers went 7-for-8 from the free throw line in the final minute to seal a 70-58 win.

Ferraro led the Seawolves with a team-high 13 points to be named America East player of the game. Senior Aly Young added 11 points and seven rebounds.
