Softball Maintains Early Lead To Beat Fordham, 4-2

April 2, 2008

Box Score

Bronx, N.Y. - Sophomore Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) threw a complete game for Stony Brook, as the Seawolves topped Fordham, 4-2, at Bahoshy Field in Bronx, N.Y. Tuesday. Stony Brook improves to 13-11-1 while the Fordham falls to 14-18.

After being retired in order to start of the game, the Seawolves kicked-off the top of the second inning with a double to right-centerfield by junior Marissa Fleury (Mahopac, N.Y.). Junior Kelsi Fanelli (Audubon, N.J.) proceeded to single up the middle to put runners on the corners for sophomore Vicki Kavitsky (Cherry Hill, N.J.). Stony Brook's shortstop roped a pitch to right-centerfield for a bases-clearing triple, giving her team a 2-0 lead. It didn't take long for the Seawolves to score again as the next hitter, junior Kelly Oberto (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.), singled, driving in Kavitsky. Oberto scored two batters later on a groundout by sophomore Crista Cerrone (Floral Park, N.Y.), extending Stony Brook's lead to 4-0.

The Seawolves managed just one hit over the next five innings, but Struzenberg didn't need much allowing just two runs while striking out six.

Stony Brook returns home tomorrow for a make-up doubleheader against Rutgers, starting at 3:00 p.m. at University Field.
