Fleury, Struzenberg Named to NFCA Northeast All-Region Second Team

May 14, 2008

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior Marissa Fleury (Mahopac, N.Y.) and sophomore Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) have both been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Northeast All-Region Second Team, according to a release from the organization Wednesday. Fleury and Struzenberg join five other America East Conference players on the second team.

Fleury, a first team all-conference and all-tournament selection, leads the Seawolves this year in numerous offensive categories. She's hitting .361 with seven home runs, 31 RBI, 12 doubles and has a slugging percentage of .568. Fleury was also named to the America East All-Academic team this season.

The awards keep piling up for Struzenberg, who was named Stony Brook's Athlete of the Year just last night. She has posted a 1.85 ERA in 41 appearances this season and has recorded 241 strikeouts. Her 24 wins this season is a new Stony Brook single-season record. Struzenberg joined Fleury with first team all-conference, all-tournament and all-academic awards and was also named the America East Championship's Most Outstanding Player.

The Seawolves will be traveling to Tempe, Ariz. this week, having qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Stony Brook's first game will be against No. 2 Arizona State on May 16th at 10 p.m. ET.
