Volleyball Lands Two Junior College Transfers for 2008 Season

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's volleyball team has signed two junior college transfers from Arizona for the upcoming 2008 season, said head coach Deb Matejka-Deslauriers Thursday. Lisa Doremus and Michelle Burrola will join the Seawolves after playing last season with the Phoenix College Bears. The Bears finished fourth in the NJCAA Division II Championship Tournament this year, in large part to the play of all-conference selections, Doremus and Burrola. Doremus is a swing hitter who played in all 40 of Phoenix's matches this season. She ranked second on the team with 459 kills and led the team in both aces (69) and blocks per game (0.93). She was also named a first team All-American by the NJCAA. Burrola, a libero, played in 38 matches for the Bears leading the team with 658 digs and an average of 5.67 digs per game. Burrola was also named and Academic All-American.
