Mississippi Valley State 61, Southern 56

BATON ROUGE, LA - Kristen Ellis came off the bench to score 11 points and pull five rebounds as Mississippi Valley State got a big road win at Southern.

The teams battled back and forth in the first half with five ties in the first 16 minutes. A 3 by Jordan Andrus sparked a 7-2 run by Valley late in the first half as the Devilettes took a 34-29 lead.

In the second half, Valley pushed its lead to double figures and led by as many as 12. A Latasha Williams’ 3 gave the Devilettes’ a 54-42 lead with 11:44 to play.

However, Southern responded. A pair of threes by Deidre Jackson sparked a 16-0 run that gave Southern a 56-54 lead with 3:48 to play.

The Devilettes answered by scoring the final seven points of the game. Ashley Brown’s 3-pointer with 2:37 to play gave Mississippi Valley the lead for good, 59-56. Southern went scoreless over the final 3:17.

Colby Stallings had 10 points and six assists for the Devilettes. Southern’s Jackson led all scorers with 18 points and added five rebounds. Hannah Kador added 13 for the Jaguars.

Texas Southern 44, Grambling State 42

HOUSTON - A pair of free throws by Jasmine Cannon with 13 seconds to play was the difference as Texas Southern edged Grambling.

Neither team led by more than three in the first half as the game was tied eight times in the first half and went to halftime tied at 24-24.

After intermission, Texas Southern scored the first five points to take a 29-24 lead with less than three minutes into the second half. The Lady Tigers led the entire second half and led by as many as six, taking a 40-34 lead with 6:19 to play.

Grambling battled back, going on a 8-2 run over the next five minutes. A Jasher Blocker layup tied the game at 42-all with 1:26 remaining, setting up the dramatic finish. GSU’s Ashley Cooper missed a shot at the buzzer that could have sent it to overtime.

Trikeyia East scored 15 points and 10 rebounds and three steals to lead Texas Southern.

Camille Scott had a great all-around game with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for TSU. Blocker scored 14 to lead Grambling State.

Prairie View A&M 85, Jackson State 64

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX - Gaati Werema scored 24 points to lead four teammates in double figures as Prairie View A&M downed Jackson State.

The Lady Panthers never trailed in the game and set the tone in the first 20 minutes shooting 50 percent from the field (16-32) in taking a 39-26 halftime lead.

PV was even better from the field in the second half, shooting 61 percent (20-33). Twila Stokes scored 16 off the bench, Candice Thomas 12 and Dominique Smith 10 to lead the Lady Panthers.

Erlexis Cooper led Jackson State with 23 points and had nine rebounds, and DeQuisha Davis added 10 for JSU.
