Two SU Records Broken and Multiple Season Best Times Posted in San Angelo

Senior Chris Norris (Katy, TX/Katy HS) continued his superb season by breaking the Southwestern record in the 200 meter dash while Micah Salinas (San Antonio, TX/Highlands HS) set a new mark in the triple jump with the men finishing sixth and the women taking fifth at the ASU David Noble Relays in San Angelo, TX on Saturday (Apr. 12).

Norris broke the record with a time of 22.07 to pick up the win in the 200 meter finals. He has now run the two fastest times in the event out of everyone in the conference. Norris also ran as part of the 4x400 relay that posted a season best time of 3:22.7 and finished sixth.

Junior Kristin Lahaie (Cypress, TX/St. Pius X HS) also picked up a win in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.58. Sophomore Laura Kromann (Austin, TX/Bowie HS) finished in 2:29.82, right behind Lahaie in second. Micah Salinas (San Antonio, TX/Highlands HS), competing in his first meet for SU, placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 12.77 meters. That is the third longest jump in the SCAC this season.

Also in the 200 meters for the men, Preston Hollis (Austin, TX/McCallum HS), Chase Pipkin (San Antonio, TX/Alamo Heights HS) and Troy Hutchens (Stillwater, OK/Stillwater HS) all posted their best times of the season. In the 100 meter dash prelims, Scott Smith (Houston, TX/Jersey Village HS) finished in 11.45 and Pipkin in 11.70, both of which were season bests.

The women's 4x400 relay team of Alana Buenrostro (Brownsville, TX/St. Joseph's Academy), Kromann, Lahaie and Dianna Urrego (Houston, TX/St. Agnes Academy) placed third with a season best time of 4:23.41. Buenrostro placed fourth in the finals of 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.87 and took fifth in the 400 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:12.52.

Allen Smith (Dallas, TX/Shelton School) ran a personal best time of 16:33 in the 5,000 meters. The Pirates 4x100 relay team, consisting of Hollis, Norris, Scott Smith and Pipkin took fifth place with a time of 43.16. In the 4x400 relay, Hollis, Norris, Scott Smith and Hutchens took sixth.

Urrego posted a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 1:11.73 and also took 12th in the 200 meter prelims, crossing in 31.33. In the shot put, senior LaToya Alexander (San Antonio, TX/Communication Arts HS) threw for a distance of 9.07 meters, good for ninth place.

The Pirates were up against NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA competition at the meet.

Southwestern will next take part in the University of Texas Twilight in Austin, TX on Saturday (Apr. 19).
