Two More Southwestern Records Fall at Texas Twilight

The SU track and field team's final meet before the SCAC Conference Championships saw sophomores Avery Sheppard (Cuero, TX/Cuero HS) and Tami Warner (Dale, TX/Lockhart HS) both break program records in the 110 meter hurdles and the 800 meters, respectively, at the University of Texas Twilight meet in Austin, TX on Saturday (Apr. 19).

Sheppard 110 hurdles in a time of 15.17 to place fifth overall with only NCAA Division I runners ahead of him. In the women's 800 meters, Warner took 10th with a record time of 2:23.52. Right behind Warner was junior Kristin Lahaie (Cypress, TX/St. Pius X HS) with a time of 2:23.92. Sophomore Laura Kromann (Austin, TX/Bowie HS) placed 16th, finishing in 2:27.64. All three of the women in the race ran personal bests.

Chris Norris (Katy, TX/Katy HS) finished ninth in the 100 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 10.86. Sophomores Chase Pipkin (San Antonio, TX/Alamo Heights HS) and Anthony Cox (Flower Mound, TX/Flower Mound HS) both ran personal best times of 11.66 and 12.07, respectively. In the men's 800 meters, Addison English (Keller, TX/Keller HS) placed 20th with a personal best time of 2:03.32 while Sebastian Winkler (Corpus Christi, TX/Incarnate Word Academy) finished 23rd, posting a time of 2:09.70.

Norris also competed in the long jump, recording a distance of 6.25 meters which was good for eighth place. Senior Troy Hutchens (Stillwater, OK/Stillwater HS) placed 34th in the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 23.42. Pipkin ran the race in 23.50 and Cox posted a personal best 25.21. Hutchens also ran the 400 meter dash in 52.88 for 24th overall.

In the men's 3,000 meters, Allen Smith (Dallas, TX/Shelton School) took 21st, finishing the race in 9:56.46. On the women's side in the 3,000, Jessica Ratcliffe (Coppell, TX/Coppell HS) posted a time of 12:00.38, good for 18th.

The Pirates travel to Greencastle, IN for the SCAC Championships this coming weekend on Friday (Apr. 25) and Saturday (Apr. 26).
