One day after tying a season-high 20 runs, the Pirate offense went cold as the SU baseball team managed just one extra-base hit and six hits total in an 11-0 loss to cross-town rival Concordia University-Austin on Monday (Mar. 17) afternoon at The Dell Diamond in Round Rock, TX. Things went south in the early-going as the Tornados took a 1-0 lead through one and then upped the lead to 3-0 through three. CUA slowly built its lead with a single run in the fifth and sixth innings, then two in the seventh and four in the eighth for an 11-0 lead. The Pirates failed to score in the eighth, bringing the game to an end prematurely. Southwestern did not advance a single runner past second base in the game. The Pirates' only extra-base hit came off the bat of senior Zach Copeland (Dallas, TX/W.T. White HS) as he put one off the wall in left center. Junior Eric Gonzales (Austin, TX/Bowie HS) collected a hit for the sixth-straight game. The loss was pinned on first-year Brantley Freeman (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield HS) who threw two innings and allowed one earned run on three hits. The southpaw struck out two and walked one. His season record falls to 1-2. The Pirates are now 9-12 on the season with one non-conference game left. SU hosts Cardinal Stritch University on Wednesday (Mar. 19) at 6:00 pm in Georgetown, TX before traveling to San Antonio, TX for a four-game set with SCAC rival Trinity University from Thursday (Mar. 20) through Saturday (Mar. 22).
