The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's and women's track and field teams continued its preparations for the upcoming Lone Star Conference Championships on Thursday at the McMurry Relays.

A&M-Commerce junior Leslie White set a season-best in both the javelin and in the high jump. In the high jump, White nearly posted a NCAA Provisional mark with a clearance of 6-8 ¼ en route to a first- place finish. The clearance is also a career-best for the Emory, Texas native. To begin the day, White was third in the javelin with a throw of 182-11 for an improvement on his season-best toss.

In the 400-meter dash, junior Brad Dotson was victorious in a season-best time of 48.98. Dotson knocked 66 hundredths of a second off his best time of the season. In addition to the season-best time by Dotson, junior Cairo Thornton was fourth in a season-best time of 50.56.

Junior Dean Laing was victorious and posted a season-best in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 15.24. Freshman Herron Love finished third in a season-best time of 21.90 in the 200-meter dash.

Dotson, Laing, Love and Thornton all played an integral role as the 4x100 (42.77) and 4x400-meter (3:20.63) relay teams finished second.

Also, in the field events, sophomore Jeff Rayome recorded three season-best marks was fourth in the discus 140-11 and in the shot put 48-3 ½, ninth in the hammer throw with a season-best toss of 107-7 ½. The throw of 48-3 ½ by Rayome is the best by an A&M-Commerce thrower in 2008.
 

 

Sophomore Anthony Valle led three Lions who all posted season-best performances in the 100-meter dash. Valle posted the fastest time by an A&M-Commerce runner in 2008 and also established a career-best, crossing the line in 11.13. Juniors Lyndon Wise and Lynden Poole were 12th (11.33) and 13th (11.43), respectively. Preston Duncan set a season-best in the 400-meter hurdles with a third-place finish (58.43).

On the women's side, throwers Britney Fisher and Megan Davis were fourth (133-3) and seventh (119-8) in the discus, respectively with their season-best throws of the year.

In the shot put, sophomore Taylor Smith was third with a season-best toss of 37-10 ½. The A&M-Commerce women's 4x400-meter relay team were second (4:06.76) and third in the 4x100-meter relay (49.32).

Sophomore Sunny Henderson was second in the 100-meter hurdles (16.01) and third in the javelin with a throw of 106-3.

The next meet for the Lions is a trip to Angelo State for the David Noble Relays, beginning on Thursday, April 10th through Saturday, April 12th.
