In nine of the ten-event decathlon at the David Noble Relays, Texas A&M University-Commerce junior Dean Laing set a season-best en route to a second-place finish with 6,456 points.

The 6,456 points qualify Laing provisionally for the NCAA Championship later this year. He started the day with a 15.51 performance in the 110-meter hurdles and followed that up with the best performance of the field with a throw of 117-2 in the discus.

Chase Moore of Angelo State was the winner of the event, accumulating 6,487 points to edge out Laing by 31 points for the title.

The remainder of the David Noble Relays gets underway on Saturday with the 100-meter hurdles and the women's hammer throw at 12:30 p.m.
