LaShara Jefferson Improves on NCAA Provisional Mark in Discus at Michael Johnson Invitational

At the Michael Johnson Invitational, the Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field team continued its preparations for the upcoming Lone Star Conference Track and Field Championships that are two weeks away.

Junior LaShara Jefferson improved on her NCAA-provisional mark in the discus with a season-best throw of 149-1 en route to a fourth-place finish. Teammate Britney Fisher was 10th with a throw of 120-10. Megan Davis and Rachel Redding were 13th (114-7) and 14th (106-8), respectively.

Redding was fifth in the hammer throw with a season-best toss of 132-4.

Sunny Henderson was ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.37, just missing out on the finals.

In the 100-meter dash, the Lions recorded a pair of season-best performances including Katie Barthold finished 18th in a time of 12.71 and teammate Alycea Wallace was 19th with a time of 12.73.

Barthold was 11th in the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.92 and Wallace was 14th in a season-best time of 26.52.

Junior Leslea Traylor was 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:14.21). Freshman Dena Hawkins finished fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 33-8 3/4.

Sophomore Taylor Smith was seventh in the shot put with a season-best throw of 39-3. Teammate Britney Fisher was ninth (34-4) and Megan Davis was 12th with a season-best toss of 32-8 1/2.
 

 

Freshman Herron Love nearly made the finals in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.82. Anthony Valle and Lynden Poole were 16th (11.36) and 17th (11.40), respectively. For Poole, it is a season-best performance.

In the 200-meter dash, the Lions had five season-best marks led by junior Brad Dotson, who was seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.22.

Preston Duncan was ninth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.89.

Leslie White finished third in the high jump with a third-place finish clearance of 6-6 ¾. Josh Conder cleared 6-2 ¾ en route to a fourth-place finish.

In the triple jump, Lyndon Wyse was third in the triple jump with a jump of 45-4 ½ and Marquis Stimpson was seventh with a season-best leap of 43-3.

Wyse was ninth in the long jump with a leap of 21-1 ¼ and Marquis Stimpson was 12th with a season-best jump of 21-1 1/4.

Jeff Rayome had a season-best throw of 50-1 ¼ in the shot put, exceeding his best mark by almost two feet. He also was ninth in the discus with a throw of 129-11 and 10th in the hammer with a season-best toss of 116-8.
