With the score tied at 60 and for the 11th time in the Lone Star Conference North Division contest, host Texas A&M University -Commerce scored seven of the last nine points to pull away with a 67-62 win over Northeastern State on Wednesday night.

A&M-Commerce (7-11, 2-1 LSC North) senior Scooby Johnson scored a team-high 20 points to lead three Lions in double figures. Joining Johnson was Derrick Darkis with 14 points and junior Rashad Brown had 13 points and 10 rebounds. It is the 18th-consecutive double digit scoring effort by Johnson on the season and the second double double by Brown on the season.

Northeastern State (8-9, 1-2 LSC North) junior guard Aaron Arango scored a team-high and game-high 26 points to lead the RiverHawks. The San Bernandino, California hit seven three pointers - including five in the second half - to lead a RiverHawks team who has hit 10+ three pointers in four contests in 2007-08. Steve Neal was the only other RiverHawk performer in double figures with 14 points.

During the opening half, the two teams battled to five ties. However, A&M-Commerce found itself trailing for the first time in 2007-08 at the intermission, 28-25 when Arango closed out the half making back-to-back three pointers for the RiverHawks.

In the second half, with the score tied at 43 and for the ninth tie of the game, the Lions went on a 9-2 spurt on the strength of five points from freshman guard Brent Stanton. During the spurt, Stanton hit a lay up to put A&M-Commerce in front 45-43 and culminated with a three pointer that put the Lions in front by seven, 52-45, with 8:27 left in the game.

A&M-Commerce managed to extend its lead to as much as 10, 58-48, with 6:28 remaining in the contest. The RiverHawks retaliated with a 10-0 run to tie the game at 58 with 2:53 left. After an exchange of baskets, a pair of free throws by Brown with 1:59 left put the Lions in front for the remainder of the game.

With the win, the Lions have won back-to-back games for the third time on the season. A&M-Commerce will look for its first three-game winning streak when they host Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday at 4 pm at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
