Scooby Johnson Named Lone Star Conference North Division Player of the Week

On Monday, Texas A&M University-Commerce senior forward Scooby Johnson was named the Lone Star Conference North Division Player of the Week for his efforts in last week's games against Northeastern State and Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Johnson shot 64% from the field and scored 20+ points in back to back wins by A&M-Commerce over Northeastern State and Southeastern Oklahoma State, last week. He also came up with nine rebounds in the two games as well as a team-best seven steals from his forward position and made his first 10 shots from the field against the Savage Storm last Saturday. Johnson combined with teammate Kevin Widemond to outscore SOSU in the first half 33 to 25. He has scored in double digits in all 19 games in 2007-08. A candidate for LSC North Division Newcomer of the Year leads the conference in scoring (20.1 ppg), fourth in field-goal percentage (60.9%), seventh in offensive rebounds (2.74 rpg), ninth in rebounding (7.3 rpg) and 11th in defensive rebounds (4.53 rpg), steals (1.68 spg). For Johnson, it is his second weekly honor in 2007-08, having earned the honor during the week of January 3rd. A&M-Commerce is on a three-game winning streak with an 8-11 overall record and 3-1 mark in Lone Star Conference North Division play.
