Led by the seventh-place finish of junior Pinkey Hartline and tied for 10th-place finish of junior Blake Worden, the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team finished tied for third along with LSC member Cameron at the Red River Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, hosted by East Central University, Tuesday at the par-72 WinStar Golf Club course.
 
 
Hartline Leads A&M-Commerce to Tie for Third Place Finish at Red River Intercolegiate

Led by the seventh-place finish of junior Pinkey Hartline and tied for 10th-place finish of junior Blake Worden, the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team finished tied for third along with LSC member Cameron at the Red River Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, hosted by East Central University, Tuesday at the par-72 WinStar Golf Club course. The course will also serve as the host of the 2008 Lone Star Conference Golf Tournament.

LSC member Northeastern State took home team title honors with an 865 (296-289-280) for a 10-stroke win over another LSC member, Midwestern State. Peter Svajlen of Cameron took home individual honors with a nine-under par 207 for the three-round tournament. Svajlen shot under par in all three rounds, with his best effort being a 6-under 66 in the second round. He opened play on Monday with a 70 and finished up with a 71 in Tuesday's final round.

Hartline shot a one-under 215 for the tourney including 18-hole scores of 72-71-72 and Worden posted a three-over 219 with a 219 (73-72-74) for the Lions. Junior Eric Westerman was a key reason that the Lions rose from fifth on the first day to a tie for third was the career-best 70 that he posted on the last 18 holes. For the tournament, Westerman tied for 43rd with a 233 (80-83-70).

Freshman Ryan Hickey tied for 26th with a 225 (75-77-73) and sophomore Danny Jun was tied for 33rd with a 229 (79-75-75) to round out the A&M-Commerce lineup.
 

 

The next tournament for the Lions is a trip to the Kickingbird Golf Classic, hosted by Central Oklahoma, beginning on Monday, March 24th.
