Melissa Bratton Named Lone Star Conference North Division Player of the Week
Jan. 28, 2008
On Monday, Texas A&M University-Commerce senior guard Melissa Bratton was named the Lone Star Conference North Division Player of the Week for her efforts in last week's games against Northeastern State and Southeastern Oklahoma State.
The Mt. Pleasant, Texas native posted the first double-double of her career, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the Lions' 78-74 win over SOSU on Saturday. Against the Savage Storm, eight of her 11 rebounds were on the offensive side. She also played a crucial role on the defensive side of the ball, guarding SOSU's leading scorer Jessica Hocker in holding her to 12 points. The 12 points by Hocker were her third lowest output of the season. The LSC leader in free throws attempted got to the free throw line just four times. Earlier in the week, she had 16 points in the 75-69 win over NSU. For the season, A&M-Commerce is 9-1 when she scores in double figures. Bratton is the second Lion to receive the weekly honor in 2007-08, earlier this year teammate Britney Jordan earned the accolade. A&M-Commerce has won its last three in a row and is currently 14-5 overall with a 3-1 mark in Lone Star Conference North Division play. The Lions and Bratton are back in action on Wednesday night in Weatherford, Oklahoma, when they take on Southwestern Oklahoma at 6 p.m. All the action can be heard live on KETR (88.9 FM) and online at www.ketr.org.
