Spring Sports Hit The Diamond

TAMIU baseball will open the 2008 season with a three-game home series against Tarleton State.

Jan. 29, 2008

The calendar may say January but thoughts will change to spring within a matter of days for fans of the diamond sports. Texas A&M International University's baseball and softball teams will both open their 2008 seasons this weekend.

The Dustdevil baseball team will open their second season of competition with a three-game home series against Tarleton State. The teams will play a single game on Friday at 7 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Veterans Field.

The two teams opened last season with a three-game set in Stephenville with the Texans claiming a 2-1 advantage in the series. TAMIU finished with a respectable 32-18-1 record in its inaugural season of competition.

TAMIU's softball team will begin its inaugural season of competition at the St. Mary's Division II Softball Classic in San Antonio. The Dustdevils will open the classic with a game against Abilene Christian on Friday before facing Delta State and Texas Woman's on Saturday and Eastern New Mexico and Tarleton State on Sunday.

All games at the classic will be played at the San Antonio Independent School District Spring Sports Complex. Tournament passes will be available at the admission gate.
