University of Incarnate Word swept Texas A&M International University in their final Heartland Conference doubleheader home games of the season on Sunday afternoon 2-0. UIW won the opening game 11-5 and game two 9-1. The Cardinal won the weekend series 4-0. The Cardinals had another good offensive performance against the Dustdevils in game one. UIW collected 11 runs on 21 hits during 37 at bats as a team. But, the Dustdevils gave a courageous effort in game one. Victoria Beltrán contributed one home run hit and hit a double as well. This effort helped TAMIU get five runs on six hits during 27 at bats. Victoria Beltrán (7-8) received the loss against the Cardinals. She allowed 21 hits and 10 earned runs in seven innings pitched. UIW (22-18, 13-5 Heartland) continued their fast offensive attack in game two of the doubleheader against TAMIU (12-24, 8-8 Heartland) on Sunday. The Cardinals scored 9 runs only on 9 hits during 23 at bats. UIW was able to closeout game two with a 9-0 lead against the Dustdevils in the top of the fifth inning. At the bottom of the fifth inning, Ryanne Chapman scored the only run for TAMIU from second base on a Vanessa Escobedo single hit making the final score 9-1. Courtney Smith (1-9) recorded the loss. She allowed six hits, six runs, and five earned runs in two innings pitched. Texas A&M International University returns to action on the road against St. Mary's University, in San Antonio, for a doubleheader on Saturday April 12th at 1:00 p.m. and on Sunday April 13th at 10:00 a.m. |
