St. Mary's swept Texas A&M International University in Heartland Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Rattler Field in San Antonio. The 23rd ranked Rattlers won the opener 3-0 before claiming a 2-1 win in game two. TAMIU was limited to two hits in the opener, a third inning single by Janelle Ruiz and a sixth inning single by Samantha García. Victorian Beltrán (7-10) took the loss after allowing three earned runs on eight hits in a complete game effort. St. Mary's (41-9, 17-1 Heartland) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first in the second game before TAMIU (12-26, 8-10 Heartland) tied the score on a third inning RBI single by Angel Montejano. TAMIU would have only one base runner after scoring in the third inning with Vanessa Escobedo reaching on a single in the fifth inning. The Rattlers scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth to claim the win. Courtney Smith (1-9) took the loss despite turning in a solid complete game effort. She allowed one earned run on five hits in a 6.0 inning outing. The Dustdevils and Rattlers will wrap-up the series with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for noon. |
