H2O Frogs earn All-MWC recognition

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams had 11 student-athletes earn 22 All-Mountain West Conference selections, the league office announced on Tuesday. The men's team placed fifth at this year's conference championships, while the women finished in sixth place.
Seven swimmers on the men's side earned 16 selections, led by senior Jonathon Berrettini, who earned accolades in six events. Berrettini, a native of Lewisville, Texas, placed third in the backstroke events, and swam to a fourth-place showing in the 50-free.
Fellow senior Scott McCracken and sophomore Josh Bagby each earned five all-conference selections on Tuesday. In the 50-free, McCracken swam to a third-place finish in a time of 20.30, followed by Bagby in fifth spot with a personal-best time of 20.40. McCracken also placed third in the 100-free (44.88), while Bagby finished fifth with a time of 45.07.
Cameron Allred, a senior from Fort Worth, was named All-MWC in the 200-breast event after placing third with a clocking of 2:00.54. The time is currently second in TCU history and shattered Allred's previous personal best by over two seconds.
The men's divers had a very successful showing at the league meet, combining for five selections. R.J. Hesselberg, who was named the MWC Men's Diver of the Year on Saturday, won the three-meter springboard with a school-record score of 359.80. Hesselberg also finished second in the platform dive (285.55) and sixth in the one-meter event (289.80).
Kyle Callens, a freshman diver from Deer Park, Texas, recorded a runner-up finish with a score of 307.55 in the one-meter springboard event, and placed third in the three-meter with a personal-best score of 310.55.
Three relay teams also earned accolades on the men's side. The 400-free relay squad of Berrettini, Bagby, Jeff Hendricks and McCracken claimed the title with a school record and NCAA `B' cut time of 2:58.16. The 200-free relay team of Berrettini, Bagby, Hendricks and McCracken also set a school record and recorded a NCAA `B' cut with a time of 1:20.39. Berrettini, Allred, Bagby and McCracken also earned honors for their third-place finish in the 400-medley relay (3:22.90).
On the women's side, Maria Alvarez and Jennifer Ferguson led the way with multiple selections. Alvarez, a freshman from Cali, Colombia, set three school records at this year's conference championships. Alvarez swam to a third-place finish in the 1650-free, and set a new record in the 1000-free in the process. In the 500-free, Alvarez finished sixth with a school-record time of 4:56.58.
Ferguson, a sophomore diver from Beaconfield, Quebec, earned a runner-up finish in the platform diving event (213.60) and placed eighth in the one-meter springboard (250.40).
Stephanie Futscher earned accolades for her sixth-place finish in the 200-fly (2:04.99), while freshman Jessica Miles was honored for an eight-place showing in the 1650-free (17:14.15).
