May 2, 2008
FORT WORTH, Texas - Nationally ranked TCU will close its regular season this weekend at the UTA Open on the campus of UT-Arlington. Following competition in Arlington, the Flyin' Frogs will host the 2008 Mountain West Conference Track & Field Championships on May 14-17.
"This weekend we will try and get ready for the conference meet by making the drive over to UTA," said head coach Darryl Anderson. "It will be a pretty light meet for us overall. Really, we are just trying to do something to help us prepare for the Mountain West Championships and get some kids qualified regionally." The two-day meet will begin tonight and continue tomorrow at Maverick Stadium. Today's action is set to begin with the women's hammer throw starting at 4 p.m., while running events will get underway at 6:30 p.m with the women's 5,000 meters. On Saturday, TCU will open competition at 9 a.m. with the women's shot put. The men's 4x100 will kick off competition on the track. Nationally ranked Baylor and North Texas are scheduled to compete this weekend, along with several other area squads. TCU was originally scheduled to compete at the Arkansas Twilight this weekend. Complete results and a daily recap will be available at the conclusion of each day of competition. In it's last outing, TCU had a dominating weekend at the 114th running of the Penn Relays. Overall, the Flyin' Frogs set two school records, won five different events, including the men's 4x400, while also earning College Athlete of the Meet honors for individual events.
