FORT WORTH, Texas - Nationally ranked TCU will close its regular season this weekend at the UTA Open on the campus of UT-Arlington. Following competition in Arlington, the Flyin' Frogs will host the 2008 Mountain West Conference Track & Field Championships on May 14-17.

"This weekend we will try and get ready for the conference meet by making the drive over to UTA," said head coach Darryl Anderson. "It will be a pretty light meet for us overall. Really, we are just trying to do something to help us prepare for the Mountain West Championships and get some kids qualified regionally."

The two-day meet will begin tonight and continue tomorrow at Maverick Stadium. Today's action is set to begin with the women's hammer throw starting at 4 p.m., while running events will get underway at 6:30 p.m with the women's 5,000 meters. On Saturday, TCU will open competition at 9 a.m. with the women's shot put. The men's 4x100 will kick off competition on the track.

Nationally ranked Baylor and North Texas are scheduled to compete this weekend, along with several other area squads. TCU was originally scheduled to compete at the Arkansas Twilight this weekend.

Complete results and a daily recap will be available at the conclusion of each day of competition.

In it's last outing, TCU had a dominating weekend at the 114th running of the Penn Relays. Overall, the Flyin' Frogs set two school records, won five different events, including the men's 4x400, while also earning College Athlete of the Meet honors for individual events.

Climbing Up The National Rankings
The Flyin' Frogs men's outdoor track & field team attained its highest national ranking of the 2008 outdoor season this week in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) rankings at No. 13.

The TCU women round out the women's top 15 at No. 15, led by sprinter Virgil Hodge, the nation's second-ranked female in the 200 meters. On the men's side, the Flyin' Frogs top ranked individual is triple jumper Jonathan Jackson, the NCAA's No. 1 jumper, while the men's 4x400 unit is ranked fourth overall on the descending order list.

The USTFCCCA Division I indoor track and field rankings are compiled solely from NCAA descending order lists.

MWC Honors Again For The Flyin' Frogs
TCU senior Jonathan Jackson and sophomore Neidra Covington were selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's outdoor track and field athletes of the week on Tuesday.

Jackson broke his own school record to win the men's triple jump on Saturday at the Penn Relays. The senior earned College Athlete of the Meet honors for individual events after leaping 54 feet, 3 ¾ inches in the triple jump, as well as capturing the title in the long jump with a mark of 24 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Both are NCAA regional qualifying marks and rank first in the MWC this season. Jackson's triple jump mark is currently the No. 1 jump in the nation and the third longest leap all-time in MWC history. It is also the 10th longest jump in Penn Relays history. Overall, he became the first TCU track and field athlete ever to win both the men's long and triple jump at the Penn Relays. He also became the first TCU male or female to win a title in the triple jump at Franklin Field. By being named Individual College Athlete of the Meet, Jackson became only the second individual in TCU history to be named Individual Athlete of the Meet.

Covington earned runner-up honors in the championship division of the women's triple jump at the Penn Relays, soaring 43 feet, 3 3/4 inches. Her regional qualifying mark broke her own school record, which she set last weekend at the TCU Invitational. The sophomore currently has the 12th best mark in the NCAA this spring and the top leap in the Mountain West Conference. It is also the fifth-best jump in the Midwest Region and third-best leap in MWC history.
