FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU head coach Darryl Anderson sat down with Gofrogs.com this week and talked about the upcoming Mountain West Conference Championships on May 14-17.

What are your thoughts about the Mountain West Conference Championships?
"We are going to go into the championships wanting to have the highest finish we can possibly have. We would like to win, but every team coming in here wants to win. At the end of the day our general philosophy isn't going to change because we always want to be in the top-three and win as many individual titles as we can. This part of the season is the biggest time of the year for us. We are looking forward to being at home and hosting this meet. I am very excited to see how this thing turns out. I am always up for the challenge of postseason and that is upon us these next couple of weeks."

How has the season been so far?
"I think this season so far has been pretty good, but obviously these next three meets will determine how our season really goes. We have had a lot of high points so far and have made a lot of progress with both of our teams making it into national rankings. Hopefully, in six weeks I have the same positive answer for you."

Who has surprised you this year on the track?
"There really hasn't been a lot of surprises because we came into this season knowing that we had a few people that would stand up for us. Virgil Hodge has done what she does, while Neidra Covington and Kishelle Paul have really stepped up and became faces of the program. In the throws, Stormy Harrison and Candis Kelley have both done some very good things for us this season. We always need more people though to step up to the forefront. On the men's side, our freshmen class has been excellent on the track this season, but we touted them a lot coming in. Sean Zurko has done a very good job, while Mychal Dungey has posted some of the fastest times in the nation in both the 100 and 200. Finally, Matthew Love and Jordan Pitts have really come on and have helped us a lot this season. As far as the upperclassmen go, Jonathan Jackson, Justyn Warner, Otis McDaniel and Tommy Killen have all stepped up and really become faces for our program. Che Chavez is another guy that is in that group I just mentioned who has continued to do an excellent job this season, while Festus Kigen has really came into his own this year."

What are your final thoughts on hosting the MWC Championships?
"BYU comes into the championships as the favorite, but all I ask from our kids is that they do what they normally do. The key thing for us is to not beat ourselves. It means a whole lot this year to host this meet, not only from a staff standpoint, but from a kid standpoint as well. I know that the kids are excited to run in front of friends and family. Really, any team that hosts a meet has environmental advantages on its side and that is the fun of hosting a meet. It's definitely going to be hot because it's Texas."
