PROVO, Utah (AP) - Trent Plaisted scored a career-high 27 points as Brigham Young beat TCU 83-72 on Wednesday night.

The win is the sixth straight for the Cougars and pushes BYU's home winning streak to 43 straight.

BYU (18-5, 7-1 Mountain West) took over first place in the Mountain West Conference as a result of UNLV's 81-73 loss at Utah.

The Cougars used a 9-0 spurt midway through the second half to push the score to 69-49. TCU could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

In the first half, BYU connected on its first five shots to jump out to a 12-4 lead with 15:04 remaining. Trent Plaisted scored eight of the Cougars' next 11 points to push the lead to 23-8 midway through the half. Plaisted led all scorers at the break with 17.

Ryan Wall kept TCU (11-10, 3-5) close with 4-of-4 shooting from beyond the 3-point line, including two he banked in.

Jonathan Tavernari scored 20 points and dished out five assists for the Cougars who shot 60 percent from the field.

Wall led TCU with 14 points.
