Frogs set for second tournament of season at Braveheart Classic
March 2, 2008
The TCU men's golf program will hit the links for its second tournament of the spring season at the Braveheart Classic hosted by UC Riverside at the Oak Valley Golf Club beginning on Monday (Mar. 3) in Beaumont, Calif. The Horned Frogs will have the same lineup as their first tournament of the season at the UH Hilo Intercollegiate in Franklin Corpening (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal H.S.), James Sacheck (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville H.S.), Robby Ormand (Austin, Texas/James Bowie H.S.), Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal H.S.) and Jordan Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington H.S.) where the Purple and White finished ninth overall in the 18-team field. Sacheck, Ormand and Travis Woolf all led the Purple and White as the trio finished tied for 20th overall with a three-round tally of 210 while Corpening finished one-stroke back of his teammates for a 34th-place showing. In his first collegiate tournament, Jordan Woolf notched a three-round score of 216 en route to finishing 57th overall. "I really like the lineup that we will be putting in the tournament," said TCU head men's golf coach Bill Montigel. "This is a close, knit group of guys who have really bonded with one another and have great chemistry. They are all great guys and pull for one another so the support that they show for each other is extremely helpful in a tough tournament.
The Frogs will be compete against 17 teams at the Braveheart Classic - including Kansas State, Gonzaga, Missouri State, Portland, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Boise State and Cal State Northridge to name a few.
"I think that the Hawaii tournament was the hardest field that we'll see this season. This is another strong field, but I tell our players all the time to play the golf course and not worry about the teams in the field. We are going to take the same approach this week by playing the golf course and forgetting who is in the tournament," Montigel added. The Braveheart Classic will begin with 36 holes on Monday followed by the third and final round on Tuesday morning. TCU Athletic Media Relations
