The TCU men's golf program will travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the second time this season as the Horned Frogs prepare for Mountain West Conference Championships - which begin on Thursday (Apr. 24) at the Tucson National Golf Resort.

"This is a great time of the year for us," said TCU head men's golf coach Bill Montigel. "The team always enjoys going to the conference tournament, and this will be a very competitive field this season. Our guys have worked hard all season and prepared for this tournament so we feel confident about our chances since we've had success at this course earlier in the season. The course is in great shape, the teams are looking very competitive, and our guys are looking forward to the challenge so it should be an exciting few days."

Earlier this season - the Purple and White traveled to the Tucson National Golf Resort where the Frogs came away with top honors at the National Invitational Tournament. The Frogs entered the final day of action with a nine-stroke advantage over the field and were able to hold off a late flurry by nationally-ranked Kent State en route to posting their second tournament victory of the season.

With a pair of victories under their belts in addition to four top-10 finishes in their last six tournaments - the Frogs will look to improve upon their third-place finish in 2007 and fifth-place showing during the 2006 Mountain West Conference Championships.

Last season - Robby Ormand (Austin, Texas/James Bowie H.S.) became the sixth golfer in the last two decades to capture an individual conference championship for the Frogs when the TCU junior defeated Adam Porzak of San Diego State in the first hole of sudden death to claim his first collegiate victory. The Austin, Texas, native recorded a career-best three-round score of six-under-par 207 - including a 68 in the first and second rounds of action.

The Purple and White - who is ranked 47th in the country according to Golfstat and 57th in the nation in the latest Golfweek rankings - will have a strong field to overcome in order to claim their first conference championship since the 2005 Conference USA title. The Mountain West Conference field will comprise of a pair of top-30 programs in UNLV (15th) and San Diego State (30th) while BYU is listed 90th in the country according to the most recent Golfweek rankings.

The Frogs will send a familiar lineup to the Mountain West Conference Championships in Franklin Corpening (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal H.S.), Ormand, James Sacheck (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville H.S.), Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal H.S.) and Jordan Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington H.S.).

The five Frog golfers have competed in every spring tournament this season while Sacheck and Jordan Woolf will be making their debuts at the Mountain West Conference Championships. Sacheck competed at the 2005 Conference USA Men's Golf Championships where he recorded his best career finish at fourth overall en route to helping the Frogs claim the conference crown.

The Purple and White will tee off on Thursday (Apr. 24) at 7:00 a.m. as the Frogs will be paired with San Diego State and UNLV on the first day of action. Groups on the second and third day of action will be paired by rankings on the leaderboard.
