TCU falls to No. 62 Wisconsin, 5-2
March 10, 2008 MADISON, Wis. - The No. 29 TCU men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 62 Wisconsin on Monday night at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis. With the loss, the Horned Frogs drop to 10-3 overall, while the Badgers improve to 7-5 this season.
"Wisconsin is ranked low, but I think they will be a top-25 team by the end of the season," said TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "I think they're the best team we've played this season. As I said at the beginning of the year, it's a learning experience with all of our freshmen, and we're going to have ups and downs. We're just going to regroup and try to play better."
The Badgers won the first two doubles matches to clinch the point, including a win over TCU's Zach Nichols and Jack Seider at the No. 3 position, snapping the duo's 12-match winning streak to begin the season. The Horned Frog duo of Kriegler Brink and Cosmin Cotet salvaged doubles play with a 9-8(2) win over Nolan Polley and Moritz Baumann at the top spot.
Brink and Cotet, TCU's only upperclassmen in the lineup, recorded the only singles wins for the Frogs on Monday. Brink, a junior from Gauteng, South Africa, routed Jeremy Sonkin at the No. 4 position by a score of 6-1, 6-1. With the win, Brink improved to 12-0 this season.
Cotet, a senior from Iasi, Romania, put an end to his two-match slide with a 6-1, 5-7, 10-5 victory over No. 50 Moritz Baumann at the top position. The win was Cotet's third over a ranked opponent and 10th overall this season.
The Frogs will return to action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. against the No. 7 Illinois men's tennis team, who advanced to the NCAA Championship match last season.
