FORT WORTH, Texas - Sophomore Jennifer Neel and incoming freshman Courtney Chown both competed at the 2008
American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Show this past week. The show was held in Oklahoma City, Okla., on August 1-9.

Neel competed in Cutting, which is an event where a saddled horse is specially trained to separate individual animals from a cattle herd.

In the preliminaries, Neel scored a 211 and placed 10th out of 47 horses. The Milsap, Texas native ended competition with an 11th-place finish overall.

This show was very important to Neel as it was her last appearance as a youth and her last show with her horse, Patti. Patti is 21 years old and Neel has used her on and off for the last nine years.

"I have earned many of my equestrian accomplishments with Patti and I have never ridden a horse with more heart than her. She is a great horse and tremendous athlete," Neel said.

Chown also appeared at the World Championships where she competed in Horsemanship, an event which she has lengthy experience. With her performance, Chown became the 2008 Reserve World Champion for the second year in a row.

After just being edged out by the winner, Chown earned an impressive second-place finish with a total score of 330.

TCU opens up its season Sept. 19 against West Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Follow all the action at GoFrogs.com.
