Frogs tie for third at Lady Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -- Career-low rounds of 70 by Carrie Morris and 72 from Melissa Loh helped the 27th-ranked TCU women's golf team finish in a tie for third after Tuesday's final round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Morris, the lone senior in the Horned Frog lineup, bettered her previous best round of 72 at this fall's Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Her 7-over-par 223 tied for 21st. Morris hails from Tyler, Texas. A freshman from Singapore, Loh had her best two rounds of the season in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Tuesday's 72 was preceded by an opening-round 74. Loh posted her top finish as she tied for 15th with a 6-over 222. Valentine Derrey was the top TCU finisher, placing fifth with an even-par 216. It was her fourth consecutive top-10 result. The Paris, France, native was eight shots behind medalist Stacy Lewis of Arkansas. TCU had its low score of the tournament with its final round 5-over-par 293. The Frogs' 54-hole score of 23-over 887 was just seven strokes behind No. 19 Alabama, who claimed the team title by three shots over No. 30 LSU. TCU's five-player lineup at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic featured two freshmen, two sophomores and one senior. The Frogs return to action March 7 at the Texas A&M MoMorial in College Station.
