Frogs start their spring season in California

PALOS VERDES, Calif. -- The defending Mountain West Conference champion TCU women's golf team opens its spring season Monday at the 2008 Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. The 54-hole tournament is being held at the par 71, 5,912-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com. The No. 28 Horned Frogs will face a strong field. Twelve of the 15 teams are ranked in the top 25, including No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 USC, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 5 Florida, No. 7 Denver, No. 9 Arizona, No. 15 Oklahoma State, No. 16 Pepperdine, No. 17 Wake Forest, No. 23 Michigan State, No. 24 Stanford and No. 25 Texas A&M. Rounding out the field are No. 37 Ohio State and No. 40 BYU. A trio of freshmen (Prisela Campbell, Allyson Ferguson, Melissa Loh) and two sophomores (Valentine Derrey, Christina Schams) will represent TCU. Derrey tops the Frogs and ranks 12th nationally with a 72.7 stroke average. The Paris, France, native closed the fall with consecutive top-10 finishes at the Lady Paladin Invitational and Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Campbell, a local product from Fort Worth, is second on TCU with a 75.5 mark. Houston native Ferguson (76.8) joins Derrey as the only Frogs to play in all three fall tournaments. Schams and Loh have stroke averages of 77.8 and 78.0, respectively. The Frogs are in action for the first time since concluding the fall campaign Nov. 5 at the Collegiate Match Play Championship in Kissimmee, Fla.
