Frogs top Wake Forest on Thursday, 5-2
March 6, 2008 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 22 TCU women's tennis team defeated No. 37 Wake Forest on Thursday by a score of 5-2 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Horned Frogs improved to 6-3 overall, while the Demon Deacons dropped to 3-5 this season. "We played a really good match today against a team that competed very hard," said TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond. "We competed and fought hard, as reflected by the six three-set matches in singles. Anytime you can get a quality win on the road against a solid opponent, you walk away satisfied. After a TCU loss at the No. 3 position to begin doubles play, the Horned Frog duo of Nina Munch-Soegaard and Katariina Tuohimaa answered back with an 8-3 victory over Sierra Poske and Ana German. The 14th-ranked TCU duo of Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska clinched the doubles point with a dominating 8-3 win over the No. 27 Wake Forest tandem of Alex Hirsch and Sasha Kulikova.
The Frogs dropped decisions at the No. 2 and No. 5 singles positions to fall behind 2-1 in the match before Harkins downed Christian Tara by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to even the match.
Munch-Soegaard followed with her fourth consecutive win at the top position with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Hirsch, while Tuohimaa won her team-leading seventh victory of the season over Poske at the No. 4 position to clinch the match for TCU. Freshman Idunn Hertzberg closed out the match with her fourth consecutive victory of the season with a 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 decision over Katarina Reveche. The Frogs will return to action on Saturday at 10 a.m. against No. 28 VCU in Richmond, Va.
